Early Treatment
(Phase I)
Early treatment, also called Phase I orthodontics, focuses on younger children whose jaws are still growing. Catching issues early can guide jaw development, create room for adult teeth, and reduce the need for more complex treatment later.

When to start
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first evaluation by age 7. Most kids won't need early treatment, but when they do, timing matters. Acting during the right growth window can prevent more complex treatment down the road.
What it can do
Phase I treatment can correct crossbites, expand a narrow upper jaw, create space for incoming adult teeth, address harmful habits like thumb sucking, and improve airway and breathing patterns during a critical growth window.
Common appliances
Palatal expanders, partial braces, space maintainers, and habit appliances are the most common early-treatment tools. Phase I treatment is followed by a resting period until adult teeth come in.
Who treats your child
Dr. Lina has a particular focus on early intervention and airway-conscious care for growing kids. We meet families where they are, never recommending treatment that is not needed.
